As the 1992 Pine Wood Derby undefeated champion amongst my then Cub Scout troop, I am often to this day highly feared for my ability to delegate – in this instance, to a team of experts consisting of my grandpa, my dad, and my dad’s freakishly talented engineer friend. I continued on in life to become a highly respected member and co-founder of the Gardetto’s Club in the 5th grade. A prestigious meeting of the minds, which involved sitting in bean bag chairs sharing a bag of Gardetto’s during snack time. Toughing it out in the trenches of middle school, a battlefield of insults and the looming threat of being beat up, I emerged victorious as a torchured artist and musician, writing songs in my basement about girls I had crushes on, and people in high school I didn’t like.

It was for this reputation that I was asked to join the team at Epic Motion. As a kid I was always creating. Mixtures consisting of egg yolks, chocolate syrup, and apple cider – which I confidently believed to be the cure for cancer – turned into piano lessons, which turned into guitar lessons, and eventually locked arms with painting and drawing, expanding into a love for video.

I love what I do here because I get to share in people’s joy. Watching through all the wedding footage, hearing a couple’s story, laughing when they laugh, getting choked up at times… and then making a piece of art that they will hopefully watch over and over and be moved by is the process that gives significance to my work. That, to me, is what makes Epic Motion truly unique. We collectively celebrate – in my case from a distance – with each couple that has committed their lives to each other, and out of that, we create a piece of art, and not simply an edited version of the wedding day.

My background happens to be in fine arts, specifically painting, so when I’m not at Epic Motion, I’m in my studio making new work, and interacting with clients and galleries. You can check out my work here: http://johnazoni.com.

Additionally, I serve as a worship leader at my church, Genesis the Church in Royal Oak, MI leading bands of talented musicians and singing praises to God. I draw musical influences from the likes of Sufjan Stevens, Copeland, Jermy Enigk, and Ryan Koral.

And my favorite color is red.
