Since I was little, I’ve been fascinated with cameras and capturing beautiful images. At age 6, I remember taking Dad’s old VHS camera and running around the house recording everything I saw. Regardless of how boring those moments may have seemed, I was intrigued with the idea of capturing a moment and being able to review it later. My love for video was put on the back burner for many years though, and design and drawing began to consume my thoughts.
At 16, video re-arose as a major influence in my life. I was very involved in action sports, and I realized the desire and need to record events and edit the footage together. It was from this that my passion grew tremendously to create high energy, intense visual masterpieces both within the camera and in editing. My love for film inspired me to completely change career paths from a math/science based engineering major to a film/video production major.
I love working at Epic Motion because of the emotion that we capture and convey to our amazing couples! I love seeing the reactions from our brides and grooms during their first viewing of our same day edits. I love being able to show a couple all that they missed and all the lives that they touched on their insanely hectic days of joy. We blend beautiful imagery with timeless romantic storytelling to create life-changing experiences for our client, and THAT is what separates us from a “wedding videographer”.
To this day, I still LOVE getting involved in action sports. BMX, snowboarding, and skateboarding, all have had a gigantic impact on the way that I see and capture a moment throughout your day. I love getting outside with my camera, turning ordinary moments into extraordinary memories. Much of my inspiration stems from music such as: Jack Peñate, Florence and the Machine, and Phoenix.
I currently study film production at Grand Valley State University where I intend to pursue a career of image-making as a Director of Photography following my graduation next spring.
Some highlights:
-Senior film/video student at Grand Valley State University
-Coolest job, maybe the GVSU Summer Film – “Message Sent” – note the awesome attached picture.
-something that makes me laugh – I don’t laugh but when I do, it’s probably because of my puppy.
-favorite movie: Inception or The Prestige (I’m a big Nolan fan… obviously… but who isn’t?)
-In my free time, I research cameras and lighting and ways to make better films. Yup seriously. I also ride bicycles and snowboard sometimes.
-either Jessica and Ryan’s trailer or Lisa and John for weddings and definitely the StomachofAnger promo for non-wedding.
-I love telling people’s stories in ways that make the viewer feel as if they’re there, seeing each other’s raw emotions in a truly cinematic way.
