I met my fiance in 1999, while living in Texas. I was divorce and went to the local dance club..Bustin Loose with a girlfriend. He came across the dance floor and asked me to dance. I first told him I didnt know how..but he said he would teach me. We danced all night. He joined the Navy about 6 months later and had to leave. He encouraged me to move closer to my family back in NY. So I did..we kept up a long distance relationship as best as we could for 4 yrs. Lots of late night calls..and worrying while he was deployed. He got out 4 years. And I thought ‘this is it..he is going to ask me to marry him!” After a few trips to Texas to catch up and see him. To my surprize he reinlisted for 6yrs. I was so heart broken I couldnt talk to him for over a year. Then the emails and phone calls started between us again..and over the next 7 years we wished each other happy birthday and merry xmas. Till I finally said. ..enough! He was now in Chicago still wtih the Navy. I went there in May of this year and knew I would marry him. He came to NY for the first time 2 weeks after that. Then again 2 weeks later. On his last night here he asked me to marry him. We still have a long road ahead of us. He still has 8 years till he retires but I have no doubts he is the one I was meant to be with.
How We Met (view our website of some of our story)
Piotr and I met online through an education language exchange website. I was helping him improve his English for about 7 months and somewhere around the 5 month mark I started to fall in “like” with him. He started to like me too and I made the crazy decision to fly over to Poland to meet him in person. There was something special about this man that I would spend 4 hours talking to – a day! I went there for a week and a half and it was the best week and a half I’ve ever had in my life. We saw some amazing sites and spent some valuable time together to know if this was real or not. When I had to return home it was heartbreaking because I knew I found something special in this man that lived 5000 miles away from me. I went back to Poland just 3 weeks later and stayed for a month to find out in fact if I was falling in love with him. It went so well and we both knew we were in love after 9 months of getting to know each other.
That summer Piotr made plans to come visit me but he was denied a visitors visa so we were apart for 5 months which was really tough on a new relationship not being able to see each other. I was in the middle of wedding season as a wedding photographer and august was the soonest I could leave to see him. We fought through the distance and made it work. That June we decided we would move to London to be together. Piotr moved there in July and I went to visit in August- September, and moved there to moved in with him in November. We first lived with friends and then moved into a place closer to his job.
My works visa situation fell through with the company that offered me a job so I was unable to work and the end of 6 months had to return back home. Piotr provided for me the whole time I was there. He tried to get another visitor visa shortly before I had to leave so he would be able to come visit me but was denied again, so we weren’t sure when was the next time we would see each other and he still wasn’t able to see where I came from and meet my family and friends.
Recently, 2 months after I left, Piotr suffered from and unruptured aneurysm and I flew out to London to be by his side for his very serious brain surgery. It was during that time that Piotr let me know that he knew he only wanted to be with me for the rest of his life and hoped that he was would make it through the surgery so we could have a long life together. I of course said yes and now we are working on this visa to bring him here and get married after a year and 7 months dating. He made it through surgery thankfully and is healing well.
I found true love in Piotr and we are so excited to begin our life together finally. In spite of distance, language, culture, and health we have made it through the rough times and I can’t wait to marry my best friend.
